Research

Our mission through our science is to work cooperatively with our animals to translate cutting edge research into the preservation of marine ecosystems.

The research performed on the Marine Mammal Physiology Project examines the physiology and performance of various mammalian groups, including cetaceans (whales and dolphins), pinnipeds (seals and sea lions), mustelids (sea otters), and various marine and terrestrial mammals.

The project examines how an animal’s body works and the energy expenditure required for daily life. This type of information is directly applied to conservation efforts which benefit a wide variety of mammalian species across the globe and in our own backyard.
